HCRA Approved Course for Home Builders and Vendors

Understanding the legal landscape around housing is essential for today’s Ontario home builders. Knowing the obligations of everyone involved and when to seek legal advice is critical to your success. Covering fundamental legal concepts, this course will help you navigate the language, laws and issues surrounding residential construction. You won’t be a lawyer after this session; however, you will know your obligations and the right questions to ask. This virtual instructor-led one-day course features interactive presentations and discussions.

Course topics include:
  • Types of contracts
  • Legal requirements of contracts
  • Purchase and sale agreements
  • Warranties
  • Land registry system
  • Builder liability
  • Construction Act
  • Dispute resolution mechanisms
Exam:

If you are applying for your HCRA License, successfully completing the exam is required for your application. This closed-book exam is a multiple-choice, true/false and multiple-answer format. The exam is available 24/7, an appointment is not needed, and you will have access to complete your exam for 60 days. You will have three (3) attempts to pass the exam. The pass mark is 70%.

Prerequisites

Who Should Attend

  • Those interested pursuing a career path in construction management
  • Those applying for a home builder or vendor license in Ontario who needs to meet competency requirements put in place under section 38 of the New Home Construction Licensing Act, 2017 (NHCLA)

This course is 7 hours of instruction. Course hours can be used towards the Gold Seal Certification application for credits, subject to credit approval upon review. Note: every 6 hours of learning equals 1 Gold Seal credit.
